Dust Fires…

When we think of fires, we probably picture petrol tankers, plastics, wood, & electrical switchboards.

Rarely do we think of DUST as a fire risk!  Ask any grain-company or manufacturer of dusty goods & they’ll tell you differently. For example, fires & explosions in grain silos are quite common.  When the grain is disturbed or moved, dust is created & in the right mixture with air, it can be every bit as flamable as petrol. Some huge explosions have occurred over the years.

Hybrid Cars- emergency response procedures

While reading the American NFPA website, I noted an article on ‘responding to motor vehicle accidents involving a Hybrid or Electric car’ : http://www.nfpa.org/publicJournalDetail.asp?categoryID=1966&itemID=46403

While not strictly related to fire protection, it does relate to  our counterparts- the fire fighters.  It’s also a reminder to everyone working in property services to be careful!    Most equipment sold today has an  electrical component that could cause electrocution- cars, fire alarm panels, fan-controls, sliding fire doors, pressure switches….. everything!

Cheers,

Rob Broadhead
