As of 1st October 2017, a new Environmental Planning & Assessment Regulation will come into effect meaning Annual Fire Safety Statement assessments must be carried out by a Competent Fire Safety Practitioner.
While it states that building owners must now employ a ‘Competent Fire Safety Practitioner’ to assess their system’s annual compliance, Planning NSW hasn’t defined who this might be or how building owners determine competence- other than promising a ‘register’ in the future.
The most likely register will be linked with the Fire Protection Accreditation Scheme (FPAS) operated by Fire Protection Association Australia.
20/20 Fire Protection is FPAS accredited across all currently available competencies and this can be confirmed upon request or checking the FPA Australia website here.
Until Planning NSW provides a definition and register, 20/20 Fire Protection can prove competence in fire safety via a skills, experience & qualification summary provided to building owners upon request.
